Weekly Curriculum 22 November 2021

We are well and truly into the second half of the first term at Miyabi and the children are doing a wonderful job practicing their songs and actions for the 'Miyabi Christmas Sing’along'.

Personal Social Emotional Development

Over the coming weeks we will be talking to the children about what makes them unique. We will be asking them to
think about ‘Who is in their family?’ ‘What are their interests?’ ‘What do they like/dislike to eat?’ ‘What do they think they might like to be when they are older?’ We will be encouraging the children to talk about this in front of their peers.

Communication and Language

Thank you so much to everyone who has shared photographs and experiences that your child has had at home via the
‘Parent Blossom App’, we have loved seeing them so please continue to upload them! Over the next two weeks we will be exploring different famous building landmarks such as ‘Buckingham Palace’ or ‘The Natural History Museum’. If you
have ever been to any of these places and have any photographs, we would love to see them and temporarily display them on the walls. Children love to talk to their friends about their experiences.

Physical Development

Over the next two weeks we will continue to have lots of fun exploring the vast and beautiful grounds that Miyabi has to offer. The children love venturing to the back of the playing fields to the hill which the children have named ‘Miyabi
Mount’. The view up there is spectacular and it is a pleasure to see the children enjoy the outdoors so much!

Specific Areas

The children will be given lots of opportunities to measure and talk about lengths and widths over the next two weeks.
We will look at different ways we can measure, for example, using cubes, bricks, tape measures and even our steps. We
will also compare different lengths and widths and begin using correct mathematical vocabulary such as ‘tallest, shortest, width, height, long, short’. The children will also design maps for their ‘dream’ town and they will practice writing the initial sounds next to the pictures, for example, ‘p’ for ‘playground’ and ‘t’ for ‘trains’.

We will continue to work on our phonic skills as we play a game to guess which instrument is being played. Children will be invited to work with a friend to guess which sound is being played. At home you might want to work on sound
discrimination by playing recordings of things like a washing machine, motorbike or bird chirping and seeing if your child can guess what made the sound.

Thank you for your support!
