Weekly Curriculum 25 January 2022
The children have all settled well into the Spring Term and we are excited to begin our new topic which is ‘Weather and Seasons’.
We want to take the time to remind you about Blossom, our online learning journal, where you can have a look at some of your child’s learning that has been captured as a short video, photo or comment. It is a good idea to have a
look at this regularly so that you can stay up to date with Nursery life and chat with your child about their learning.
As you are all aware, we are very excited to be bringing in our new school uniform. This consists of a polo shirt, sweatshirt and backpack. It can be ordered via our website and we would ask that all children are wearing it by
Tuesday 1st February 2022.
On Wednesday 2nd February, we will be celebrating one year since Miyabi opened its doors as a nursery. We would love to invite you to come and celebrate with us. Celebrations will begin at 10:00am and will last approximately 1 hour.
Personal Social Emotional Development
Our value for this half term is ‘Thankfulness’ and we will be exploring what this means in the next few weeks. It would be wonderful if you could find moments to chat with your child about what this means to you at home and even
share it with us on the Blossom App! The children have really enjoyed meeting the Miyabi puppet who helps the
children talk about their feelings, the children have been very good at helping him feel better if he has been feeling a bit sad or cross. You may have noticed our very colourful new ‘circle time’ carpet which has facial expressions with different emotions on it. This is very useful in helping the children identify how they are feeling if they are struggling to articulate it with words.
Specific Areas
As our theme is ‘Weather and Seasons’ we will take the children on a ‘Listening Walk’ outside as part of our Phase 1 phonics lessons to hear what noises the weather creates.
We will practice learning key weather and season vocabulary and have a go acting out scenarios such as pretending we are at the beach or in a thunderstorm! The children will also have the opportunity to pretend that they are weather reporters on the television and report back to the class what the weather is like in the Miyabi grounds!
In math the children will be exploring weight. They will be using the balance weighing scales to compare and contrast
the weight of objects. We will be teaching them key vocabulary such as ‘lighter’ and ‘heavier’. We will also be asking the children to make predictions as to which object they think will be the heaviest and lightest.
EAD
The children will have lots of opportunities to explore a range of expressive art and design activities in the coming
weeks. The children will be making their own landscapes to reflect the different weathers and seasons using chalk, paints and even sand! The absolutely loved making their own necklaces!

Birthdays
If it is your child’s birthday and you would like to bring in a cake etc. then you are absolutely welcome to do so. Just let us know which day you would like to do it. The celebrations would need to begin at 14:10 and finish at 14:30. If you wish to bring in a cake, we ask that they do not contain any traces of nuts.
